ZoneLAB — Zone System Exposure & Color Grading Plugin

The in-depth exposure-based colour grading plugin built on the 'Live Zone' System. Patent Pending.
ZoneLAB brings Ansel Adams' Zone System to digital motion picture. Analyse and grade your footage using a real-time 21-zone exposure map — see exactly how light is distributed across every region of your frame, then shape it with precision grading tools.
What makes ZoneLAB different? Unlike traditional false colour tools, ZoneLAB maps your image into a full 21-stop zone grid with per-cell exposure readouts. It's analysis AND grading in one plugin — not just scopes.
Features:
- 21-Zone Exposure Map with false-colour overlay
- 11-Zone Ansel Adams Mode with greyscale zones and roman numeral notation
- Skin Tone Selection — select grid cells over faces for targeted exposure
- Auto Expose — intelligent scene analysis with skin-tone awareness
- A/B Split View — compare raw vs graded side by side
- Zone Isolate — highlight only the zones you care about
- Per-zone Shadow, Midtone, and Highlight exposure
- Full grading suite — temperature, tint, saturation, contrast, density
- Black & White grading with traditional filter simulation and split toning
- Film grain with exposure-dependent weighting
- Export — PNG screen grabs, 16-bit DPX with alpha overlay, multi-layer EXR
- GPU accelerated — Apple Metal compute shaders for real-time performance

Quick Start — Up and running in 60 seconds:
- Open DaVinci Resolve and drop your footage on the timeline
- Add a Serial Node and apply ZoneLAB from the OpenFX panel
- In ZoneLAB, set Color Space to match your camera's log format (e.g. ARRI LogC4 for Alexa 35, S-Log3 for Sony, V-Log for LUMIX)
- Select your Camera Profile from the dropdown (e.g. Arri Alexa 35) — this automatically sets your dynamic range
- Your zone map appears. Each cell shows the exposure zone of that region. Start grading.
That's it. No LUTs to load, no calibration, no setup wizards. Just apply, pick your camera, and go.
